“I Need Motivation!!”
I hear this SO OFTEN.
And let me tell you. Motivation isn’t real. Motivation is used as an excuse to deviate from your plan.
When people come to me and tell me they need someone to motivate them I tell them that is impossible. No one can get you up and going.
ONLY YOU CAN DO THAT!
Only you are able to make yourself get to the gym, or get to that interview on time. Only you are able to force yourself to do the things you need to do to get to your goals.
Staring at fitness models on Instagram won’t do it. Your coach can’t do it.
Only You Can.
Even the fittest of the fit have days where they don’t want to train.
Even the most shredded people have cravings for chocolate or pizza.
The difference is that their thoughts do not lead to actions.
You can have the resistant thoughts. They are allowed to be there. As long as your actions do not follow.
For me, the gym and training are a lot like brushing my teeth. There’s no emotion attached to it. I do it every day regardless of how I am feeling at the moment. My brain may be going crazy and having a fit because I’ve had a long day or it’s raining or whatever excuse it has come up with. But I don’t pay attention to it. I continue with the movements. I put my shoes on, I get in my car, I get into the gym, and I get it done. I don’t take the time to think about it.
I put myself on autopilot.
And that’s what it comes down to. Removing the emotion.
Don’t get me wrong, I am very passionate about health and fitness. But through meditation and constant work on my mind, I have been able to control and ignore the negative talk inside of my brain.
The negative talk that comes up with excuses, or procrastinates. The negative talk that tells me I can cut my cardio short today because 5 fewer minutes won’t make a difference.
Motivation isn’t real.
Learn to control your thoughts and see how simple it is to smash your goals.
